The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and defense mechanisms in divorcing and normal couples in Isfahan city. The sample included 100 persons (50 divorcing and 50 normal couples). Bar-on Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ) and Defense Styles Questionnaire (DSQ) were used in this study. The results of the study showed that there is a significant correlation between emotional intelligence and defense mechanisms in divorcing couples but there is not a significant correlation between emotional intelligence and defense mechanisms in normal couples.
