Psychometric properties of the child form of Alabama Parenting Questionnaire (Persian Version)

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to check the efficient of psychometric indexes of the child form of Alabama Parenting Questionnaire (APQ) to use for Iranian sample. The sample consisted of 773 students with a mean age 14.5. To have the Persian form for APQ at the first step the English child form of APQ was translated to Persian and then the Persian form was back-translated to English. All participants were asked to fill out the Persian form of the APQ. Exploratory factor analysis was used to study the factor structure of the Persian form of APQ. The questionnaire showed a six-factor model. These factors named positive parenting, father involvement, corporal punishment, poor monitoring, authoritarian, and awareness about each other. These factors showed a good convergent and divergent validity by correlating with family process scale. Also test-retest reliability and Alpha coefficient indexes revealed efficient reliability for the APQ for Iranian sample. In sum the child form of APQ is a useful psychometric instrument for Iranian sample.
