Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity, reliability and factor structure of Illinois Bullying Scale (IBS) for Iranian students. Participants were 297 students (150 boys, 147 girls) in middle schools were selected by random cluster sampling in Shiraz, Iran. Mean age of the students was 13.6. They completed two self-report instruments: Illinois Bullying Scale and Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire. The reliability coefficient in three different methods: cornbach alpha, test-retest and split-half those were .89, .72 and .73 respectively. The concurrent validity of the scale as measured by the Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire was .47 (p<.01). subscale-total correlation coefficients, as another index of validity were between .45 to .79. Factor analysis of the scale using varimax rotation showed 3 factors called  Bully, Fight and Victim which covered over the 61 percent of the total variance. The scale is a contribution towards measuring bullying and victimization in Iranian students.
