Presenting a Causal Model of adolescent happiness based on family functioning with the mediating role of cognitive emotion regulation strategies

Abstract

Introduction: The present study was conducted with the aim of presenting a causal model of Relationships between adolescent happiness based on family functioning with the mediating role of cognitive emotion regulation strategies.

Methodology: The design of the current research was descriptive-correlation. The statistical population of the research included all male and female students of the high-school of Sanandaj in the year of 1401-02. The research sample included 350 students who were selected by random multi-stage cluster sampling. for collect data were used of OHI, FAD and CERQ. The data were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS and with the method of structural equation modeling and path analysis.

Findings: Path coefficients showed that the proposed model has a good fit. The results of the analysis of direct paths showed that there is a significant negative relationship between family functioning and adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy and a significant positive relationship maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy, a significant positive relationship between adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy and happiness, and between maladaptive emotional regulation strategy. There is a significant negative relationship between emotion cognition and happiness, Since there was no significant direct relationship between family functioning and happiness, it was not possible to investigate the role of mediator. However, the results of the indirect path coefficients showed that family functioning has indirect relationships with adolescents’ happiness through adaptive strategy and maladaptive strategy of cognitive emotion regulation

Conclusion: Cognitive emotion regulation strategies play an essential role in the relationship between family functioning and adolescents happiness.
