The Effect of Group Schema Therapy Approach in Improvement of B Category Personality Disorders for Substance Dependent

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the efficacy of Group Schema Therapy Approach for B category personality disorders score adjustment in substance dependent individuals. The present study was performed on individuals under maintenance treatment with methadone in Shiraz public centers. Sample group included 30 persons who were under treatment. Instruments used included: clinical interview based on DSM IV, Young schema Questionnaire-short form, Mellon's clinical multi axial inventory II, and Treatment progression inventory Maudsley Addiction Profile (MAP). the results of this study showed significant differences in B categories personality disorders scores, early maladaptive Schema scores and improvement of methadone therapy between Experimental and control groups. In sum the results of the study revealed that Group Schema therapy can be considered as an appropriate therapy method in improving personality disorder signs, adjusting early maladaptive Schema and improving treatment in substance dependent individuals
