A Conceptual Model for Identity Style, Personality Characters and Perfectionism

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the future of identity styles ( normative informational, and confused - avoidance ) through five NEO personality traits and perfectionism (positive and negative ) were performed. The study population included students at Tehran University in the academic year 91-90 , so the study sample included 110 students were selected by cluster sampling and Identity Style Inventory, the NEO Personality Inventory, and perfectionism scale were completed. To investigate the hypothesis, Pearson correlation and regression analysis were used. The multiple regression analyses revealed that agreement, openness and conscientiousness (different dimensions of NEO personality trait) predict the informational identity style. Also the result of multiple regression analysis showed that conscientiousness can predict the informational identity style. Other findings showed that there is significant negative relationship between confused - avoidance identity style with the personality trait of openness agreement. Also there were significant negative relationships among negative perfectionism variables with informational and normative identity style.
